Doggone Cards

Well, here are a couple of dog themed birthday
cards and an encouragement card.
The dog images on all are from Inkadinkado.

There are some dog themed brads from
Creative Impressions.
The papers are from a DCWV stack.
Lots of layering and narrow borders.

The ink used was Ranger Archival black.
I don't remember where the stamps came from.

Ruff Day

This is such a versatile card. It can be used for
get well, someone that is having a tough time or humorously.
The stamps are from two different Inkadinkado clear stamp sets.
The scrapbook paper is from DCWV La Creme stack.
The card base is a card stock color called craft.

The doggie inchie is on some 3-D foam.

My stamps, inks, embossing powders, scrapbook paper
and card stocks are from multiple companies.
I do no limit my creativity to one small company.

A Dog Gone Birthday Card

My daughter needed some birthday cards. So I started playing with my Inkadinkado doggie stamps and some unknown stamps. The printed papers are from DCWV La Creme stack and La Creme card stock stack.

On the right is the inside of the card with the ever so cute birthday phrase that is on the inside of the card.








A very basic and simple design. All images were stamped with Rangers Archival Jet Black ink.

Western

Where to start?
The horses from Inkadinkado are stamped on
faux suede. Faux suede is made by spreading a thin
layer of Liquid Applique on card stock and heating
with your heat gun. It really does feel like suede.

The suede was stamped first with a medium brown
ink and a crackle stamp and the a very dark brown in
and the horses. The edges were torn and "burned"
with a sponging of black ink.

The leather brown diamond is a heavy leather look
gift wrap that is mounted on dark brown card stock
and cut with a decorative scissors.

The horse shoes are punched from black card stock.
The edges of the entire card are sponged in dark brown and
then black.

Sponging on Steroids

This background has been done entirely by
sponging with Rangers Distressed Inks.
The PSX tree is stamped in medium brown and
the Inkadinkado rearing horse in black.
The edges have been sponged deeply with
dark brown ink and then black.
Since the Distressed Inks remain moist
for a short period of time, holographic sparkle
embossing powder was spread over
the entire card and where it stuck, it stuck.

I really do like the randomness of the embossing powder.
It was a little surprising where is adhered and where it didn't.

Horses On Suede

The background for this card is an embossing folder
that looks like wood. The wood grain has been accented
by dusting with dark brown ink on a sponge.
The leather look gift wrap has been cut with
a Spellbinders new diamond die cut
and is layered onto black text weight paper
that has been cut with a decorative scissors.
The horse stamp is from Inkadinkado.

Horses

A clear acrylic stamp by Inkadinkado is the beginning.
It has been stamped with black ink onto faux suede.
How to make faux suede - spread a thin layerbrown Liquid Applique
over card stock and heat with heat gun.
Yes, it really does feel like suede.
I stamped over the suede with crackle stamped
inked with a medium brown dye ink.
Tear around the edges of the image and
"burn" the torn edges with black ink.
I have been known to fill in some of the uninkable
edges with a black Sharpie to get a nice solid
black burned look.

The Spellbinders Label that the horse image
is attached to is cut from a leather look gift wrap.
Next layer down is another Spellbinders Label
that has the edges first sponged with a dark brown ink,
followed by very narrow sponging of black.
Horse shoes have been stamped in the corners.

Inscribed on the plams of Gods hands

Such a fantastic scripture. It just thrills me every time I read it.


This is the same design using different part of the same piece of scrapbook paper. I personally prefer the plainer version as it is easier to see the beautiful butterfly stamp (Inkadinkado).



The second card has already been posted, but I wanted to highlight the difference a background can make.

Elegant Horse

Inkadinkado has the most marvelous set of clear stamps. These horses are so elegant and so easy to work with.

I used a Spellbinders Label die to cut out the image after it was stamped in black ink. The edges of the piece are sponged in black as is the edge of the card. Mini brads are place at the top and bottom of the label.

Very very simple and very easy design.

Butterflies and Fairies

A cream card stock card base with rounded corners is the first supply and paper crafting step. The K and Company scrapbook paper was cut 1/4 inch smaller than the card base and those corners were rounded as well.

Inkadinkado is the maker of the butterfly stamp.
1. Talc the paper.
2. Stamp butterfly with VersaMark.
3. Fineline white embossing powder is next, heat
to emboss.
4. The phrase (Stampabilities) is stamped with
black dye ink.
5. Attach to card base, if glue is used place under
heavy book to keep flat and crisp looking.

Wild Horses

Inkadinkado manufactured this acrylic stamp. There are six images in the set, each of them a work of art.

The bandanna print scrapbook paper is a perfect setting for a western themed card. By using black ink to sponge the edges of the card and the rectangular horse stamped on cream paper, the entire card is pulled together.

The offset and angled black rectangle is accented by dots of pewter Liquid Pearls in each corner.

Lattice Layers

Whilst playing with my Spellbinder's Lattice Borderabilities I came up with this card. Note that the blue lattice layer is over a white lattice layer. Then the "waste" side of the borderability is also used.

The lovely phrase stamp is from Inkadinkado.

Take Time

Another Glimmer Mist and stencil background.
One is slightly darker than the other. Both have black dye based ink sponged around the outer edges of the card.

The card front was done on a seperate piece of paper and glued to the card base to get a nice crisp flat card.
Place your card under a heavy book for a few hours and when you take it out you will be amazed at how flat it is.

The stamped phrase is by Hero Arts and the tree image is by Inkadinkadoo.

They were both stamped with VersaMark and fine line black embossing powder was applied.
Very simple cards. If you have backgrounds made up a
and waiting - this is a ten minute or less card to produce.

Variations on a Theme

My theme here is stamping over Glimmer Mist backgrounds.

When I am going to use embossing powders on a paper I usually use a dusting of talc to prevent strays of embossing powder adhereing where I don't want them. Even the oils from your fingers on the paper will cause the powder to stick in places you really don't want it.

The only time I don't talc is with dark backgrounds as the powder will lighten the paper somewhat.

On all three cards the images were stamped with VersaMark ink. Then either black or white fine line

embossing powder was applied and heated with a heat gun.

The edges of the black embossing powder cards have been sponged with black dye ink.

Personal Stamp Exchange, fondly known as PSX to long time stampers was the maker of the Courage phrase. I have no idea of who now owns this company as it has changed hands several time. It has been a long time since I have seen any of their classic images.

The floral flourishes are by Inkadinkado. This particular set is clear acrylic. I have found the quality to be excellent.

They stamp and clean up well. The "With Sympathy" stamp is made by Stamps Happen Inc.

The Glimmer Mists were applied to a seperate piece of paper that was the size of the card front. After the misted paper had dried I glued it to the card base with Crafters Pick Ultimate Glue and let the entire card base rest for the night under a heavy book. This gives my cards a nice crisp apperance that is very pleasing.

Working on the card front itself will often warp the card.

Many of the inking type techniques dampen your paper and cause warping.

Thank You card

The card began on a seperate piece of white cardstock that was cut slightly larger than the basic A2 card. (A2 - 4 1/4 x 5 1/2)
A brass stencil was laid over the paper and misted with the darker shade of Glimmer Mists. Then I carefully placed another piece of paper the same size over the entire stencil to pick up the mist that was on the stencil. This created a negative image.
Now mist on a lighter color to have the entire card front covered with shimmery glimmery color. To see the tutorial for this technique click here.

The dried finished product is glued to a card base and the edges trimmed. It then was flattened to under a big heavy book overnight for that nice crisp clean look. This avoids warping, which is something that I really dislike.

Dust the entire card front with talc (cheap baby powder) to avoid strays when embossing. Stamp the Inkadinkado image with VersaMark and apply fine line black embossing powder.

My final touch - fill in areas of the flourishes with Inkssentials white gel pen by Ranger. A friend also suggested using clear glitter glue to the ends of the flourishes. I think I will have to try that. Thanks for the suggestion Nancy S.
