Classic Thirds

The difference in these cards is the placement of the one-third portion. One on the top and the other on the bottom. I have never been able to decide which one I like the best.

These were done with Cuttlebug A2 embossing folders on a 4.25 x 5.5 inch piece of card stock that was attached to a card base after embossing. The color on the flowers and stems was done with chalks and sprayed to keep the chalks from rubbing off.

The small phrase is from Hero Arts. It has been die cut with Spellbinders Nestibilites Ovals.

Birthday Greetings

This design is the portrait version of a "Thirds" card.
The upper white portion has been embossed in the
dotted Swiss Cuttlebug A2 folder.
I am not sure of the brand of the delicate design
punch that was used on the black "ribbon".
DCWV is responsible for the black and cream
dotted paper on the bottom third of the card.

Birthday Card

This is a very basic card.
Scrapbooking paper was used for the front of the card
base. I use a plain white A2 blank card, which
means it measures 4.25 x 5.50 inches.
Glue is applied to the card, then
with the scrapbook paper still in the stack,
the card is carefully lined up along two edges.
I then use the card base itself as the guide
and cut the card from the paper.

The edges of all the pieces and the card are
sponged. To get the green background
on the Cuttlebug A2 folder I inked the folder
and then embossed white cardstock that
had been cut with a Spellbinders Label die.

The phrase was computer generated.
The Spellbinders Label die was positioned over
the phrase and taped in place with
low tack painters masking tape.
Next step was to use a Cuttlebug embossing
border folder on the bottom, then apply the
purple ink.

Faux Lace

A few weeks ago there was a video on USArt Quest on making faux lace. Double sided tape is laid down on the card stock. You can tell from the pictures of the cards that the rows of tape were fairly close together. I had to try several kinds of double sided tape before I found one that would "roll" when I rubbed over it.

I rubbed over the tape going both directions. Next was a mica powder that I dabbed on here and there with my finger. After that I put some metallic flakes on and rubbed off the excess with a stiff brush. To get rid of that finally little bit of tackiness a sparkly embossing powder was applied and heated.

The die cuts are from Spellbinders Label Series. The texture is from a Cuttlebug A2 Embossing Folder.

This is a fun new technique that is easy to do and impressive when finished.
