Paper Quilted Borders

Quilting is an old old art form, practiced by generations
of artistic women. It is not only an art form,
it has a practical side in that the quilts provide
warmth when used as originally intended,
on a bed as a bed spread.
It only stands to reason that paper crafters
would find a way to mimic the cloth version.

To ensure uniformity in the squares a punch was used.
The edges of the squares have been sponged
with dark brown ink. This adds depth and
makes each square stand out a bit more.
The squares were then glued to a
coordinating piece of card stock.
I would recommend a strip of low tack
masking tape or straight piece of paper
to be a gluing guide for the squares.
No matter how hard I tried, without this guide
my strip of squares had a slight curve.
(This made me crazy, OCD kicking in)

The first two cards have a card base that is covered
with texturized dark brown card stock.
The white border on the first card is a punch,
while the border on the second card is
a Spellbinders Borderabilities die cut.
The last card has been stamped and embossed
with fine line gold embossing powder, the stamp
is from Wordsworth.

Called According to His Purposes

That yummy La Creme Stack from DCWV! The base layer of this card is a flocked scrapbook paper. The extreme left and right borders a cut from a striped page from the same stack.

Spellbinders created the lovely lace die cut on the left and the right. A corner punch from CM was used on all four corner of the Our Daily Bread Designs stamp.

That's it. As my friend Anne would say, "Easy Peasy". All different types of papers and borders could be used to create your very own version of this very basic design.

Dictionary part 2

More sampes of the dictionary background page. The brown background has metal accents from a Spellbinders pendant die. The oval girl is a stamp from Second Star On The Right. The company and it's stamps has apparently disappeared. I bought mine in 2003. They are fantastic stamps and you will be seeing some more of these images in the near future.

The die cuts on the other three cards are from Bosskut. This company has some of the most amazing dies.

Old Wringer Washer Photo Card

I just have to look at this old wringer washer and be grateful for when I was born. I have vague memories of this process for cleaning clothes. If that memory is right, washing took all day.

Vintage look scrapbook paper covers the front of the card. The edges are sponged with a dark brown ink. The right edge of the card front is embossed with a cuttlebug border folder. I then put scrap paper over the rest of the card and along the edge of the card. The goal was to make a depressed area that contains the embossing. Now ink up a brayer with dark brown ink and with a light gentle touch brayer over the embossing. You will just kiss the raised portion with the brayer. That little bit of ink makes the embossing pop.
